5.a) It seems as if I received more entries using heading search than keywords.
b) The searches seems similar to me.
c) They are similar because their information are a like. The only difference are the titles.

You're not going to see how this works when you are working with such broad topics and headings. You need to use something narrower to see how this works.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, when you continue in your college career, you will have to use topics that are much more focused than this.
When we get to databases, you will definitely need to narrow this down.
With something narrower, I believe you would see the importance of subject headings. With keywords, you pick your own natural language and insert your terms into the search boxes. What you get is whatever the machine matches up.
With subject headings, there are two advantages:
1. the subject headings are structured and prescribed.
2. human beings assign these subject headings after reading the books.
As a result, when a librarian reads a book and assigns exactly the same heading as the next librarian assigns to the next book on the same topic, the materials sit together on the shelves and they appear together under that subject heading.
